Art21 Response

Barbara Krueger: https://art21.org/watch/extended-play/barbara-kruger-part-of-the-discourse-short/.

Two words to describe her are “social commentator” and “expressive”.

Untitled (Forever), 2017 9644a33eefd388ede95b28047132bb74b2a5048c_2560.jpg. There is “value”, as the room itself is covered in text to give the viewer depth and perception, the values are in the grayscale of the words themselves.

Untitled (Your Body is a Battleground), 1989 53fbe5677d49da4b67feb1d9c437cab71e-3-kruger.2x.w710.jpg. The art contains “symmetry”, the image is a woman’s face split down the middle to show the viewer the two different sides of womanhood.

A few of my favorite things

1. My graduation ring. It was a gift from my late grandmother, and I tend to save it for special occasions. It is the most important object that I own.

2. My current sketchbook that I keep by my nightstand for sketching.

3. A photo of my grandparents and I. I like to keep photos nearby on my nightstand, and it reminds me of a nostalgic childhood and a very short-lived soccer career.

4. My glasses. I can’t see without them.

5. My copy of Normal People, which I’ve re-read at least a few times; I am an avid reader (and re-reader).
